Thornburg Homes & Real Estate

thornburg homes for saleAbout 5 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, the borough of Thornburg is affectionately known to its approximately 460 residents as “Pennsylvania’s Best Little Borough”.  The 182 homes that comprise this community are situated on about 250 acres of softly rolling landscape stippled with mature native trees.   Having recently celebrated its 100th birthday, Thornburg is characterized by a “small town” sense of community and is within a convenient drive to just about everything.

Real estate in Thornburg is quite diverse, as there have been several distinct periods of building in the community.  Sprawling ranches, contemporaries, and colonial revivals of the 1960’s through the 1980’s typify styles readily found here.  However, you’ll also find more than a few wonderful bungalows, Dutch colonials and Victorian revivals from the 1920’s and before, many incorporating locally quarried stone.

Thornburg has a particularly active community club, responsible for planning various civic and social activities throughout the year for adults and children alike.  In existence since the1930’s, the “Thornburg Village Players” engages neighbors and friends to lend their talents to regular community theater productions staged at the Thornburg Community Center, the hub of  community life in this neighborhood.  There is also a great playground, tennis courts and soccer field for the enjoyment of all who live here.  In 2005, the community additionally acquired a large parcel of adjacent land that now serves as a conservation area and walking trail.

For avid golfers, Thornburg is directly adjacent to the 300 acre Chartiers Country Club, a private golf and social club boasting an 18 hole golf course, swimming pool and fine dining.  Its historic English Tudor style clubhouse plays host to the annual Thornburg Christmas dinner dance.

Thornburg is served by the Montour School district, and police and fire services are provided by the borough of Crafton and the Crafton Volunteer Fire Department.

Transportation to downtown Pittsburgh can be made via bus or drive in about 20 minutes or less.  The adjacent borough of Crafton connects to the west busway, a private bus lane that bypasses rush hour traffic congestion to and from the city.

Prices for single family homes in Thornburg begin at about $200,000 up to about $600,000.
